We love running camps, we love seeing kids having fun & something to do in the holidays & we love doing this in the Far North of beautiful NZ!
We want to carry on doing this, but for us 3 week-long camps a year was too much. So we have done some hard thinking and we are having a Camp Revamp.
Here is what we think will be sustainable for the next few years to carry on giving children in the Far North a great opportunity in the holidays.
1. Annual Summer Camp - this will most likely be 3-4 days long, although there may be an option of having 2 different aged camps such as 8- 10 years & then 11-14 years of 3 days each.
2. Annual Winter Day Camp - this will be 4 days long in the July holidays and be for ages 8-12 (or 13 if still at Intermediate or Primary School). We will not stay overnight but instead we will fit all the fun into 4 days.
Location: We have decided that Lonsdale Park is too far away from home base for us to continue using it. Although we love this campsite, we have searched and found something similiar - closer to home. We are looking to use a great facility, 10 minutes south of Kaitaia in the beautiful Takahue valley.
More details about all of this will come soon as we start to advertise for the coming Winter Day Camp.
We know that this decision will mean some people will be no longer able to come so easily and we are sad about that. We have not made this decision lightly, but we do believe this is the best way forward to keep Far North Holiday Camps running. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
