Camp is now full - waiting list only - 3 more sleeps until camp!

Volunteers

Running a camp is a mammoth task and needs a team of people to make it happen.
For each camp we aim to have 10 student & trainee leaders & 10 adult volunteers.  We can't offer you 5 star accommodation, but we will completely tire you out for a week, you will be blessed & the rewards will be eternal.  There is no cost for volunteers.

We need people to be cabin leaders, camp Mum & Dad, games co-ordinators, music team, speaker, cooks etc.  See below for more detailed job/role descriptions.

Each camp will have a leaders weekend (starting Friday night after dinner) which will involve training, getting to know the team & prayer for the coming camp.  The children will arrive on Sunday afternoon & stay until Friday mid-morn then the leaders & other team members will have a debrief & final clean-up before heading home after lunch on Friday.

Here are the detailed descriptions of each of the roles we have at camp:

Each camp will be staffed by 10-12 adult helpers (6 female, 6 male), 8 cabin leaders (4 female & 4 male) and 2 trainee leaders.  The descriptions below detail how this works.

Directors:
This couple will make the main calls at camp, direct the program, oversee the leaders & other helpers and set the direction for camp.
They will be involved from start to finish and all other helpers & leaders will be responsible to them.

Administrator:
This person will be in charge of the registrations, advertising, bus, email, money and all other administrative duties tied in with camp.  All queries regarding these types of things should be directed to this person.  This person may or may not attend the whole camp.

Camp Mum & Dad:
This couple will provide pastoral care to primarily the campers (but also often the leaders) while at camp. They may be required to: administer medication, do laundry, first aid, provide hugs, counselling and other duties when required.
Camp Mum will also be the Nurse for the week - applying plasters, and giving out medications.
They are not required to attend leader’s weekend, but need to be at camp on Sunday morning to prepare for camp.

Camp Cook:
This person (in consultation with the administrator) is responsible for planning the menu and buying the food. They will also oversee the kitchen during camp & be responsible for the other kitchen helpers.  This person is not required to attend leaders weekend but it would be good if possible.

Cooks Helpers: (x3)
These people will report to the camp cook for all required duties which may include: preparing  & cooking food, shopping & other duties as required. They will be on a shift roster with breaks throughout the day. These people are not required to attend leaders weekend but it would be good if possible.

Speaker:
This person will be the mouth piece for conveying the Word of God.  It is preferable if this is the same person for each talk.  They will be required to do 5 evening talks which conveys the Gospel message and gives children an opportunity for response. Often this person is also the Chapel coordniator.   It is also preferable if this person stays at camp.

Cabin Leaders:
These young people (4 male, 4 female) will be directly responsible for 7-14 children.  They will have a co-leader to assist them (pref. a senior & junior leader).  They will need to assure their cabin is at all the activities and meals on time. They will be required to lead cabin devotions, care for their children, actively participate in all parts of camp, and assist in chapel times & other duties as required.  An application form needs to be submitted which includes 2 references.   They must attend leader’s weekend.

Trainee Leaders:
These 13 or 14 year olds (max 2 -- 1 female & 1 male) will report to the trainee leader coordinator for all required duties. They will assist in whatever way is necessary to help camp run smoothly.  They will need to have a willing & teachable attitude.  Their duties may include: washing dishes, helping with games/activities, and general tasks.  They will be attached to a cabin group for when there is no required duties.  An application form with 2 references needs to be submitted.  They must attend leader’s weekend.

Trainee Leader Co-ordinator:
This person will have 2 trainee leaders to oversee & mentor.  Their role will be one of delegation & training, allowing the leaders to learn & grow through the experience of serving & taking responsibility.  Their duties will include organising meal times, serving, duties, dishes, general kitchen hand & other responsibilities as required.  A detailed program will be given for each camp.

Games/Activities Co-ordinator:
This person would report to the directors for the direction & planning of the types of activities but they would be in charge of  organising & running games, activities or crafts during the week.  They may also have a second person who is their assistant.

Chapel Co-ordinator:
This person is responsible for co-ordinating the chapel times (both morn & night).  This includes music, talks, quizzes, skits, puppets, memory verses etc.  Obviously these things will be delegated & this is a co-ordinating role.  This person may also have another role.  This would also overlap with the person in charge of the music & band, or may be the same person.

Smaller roles:
Include: Photographer, decorator, specialist craft & badge instructors, bus drivers, cooking for leaders weekend, equipment & maintenance.

Some of these roles do overlap & one person could fulfil a few of these.  Obviously the ideal is that as each plays their part the weight each person has to carry is lessened and camp runs more smoothly.
